Is that a raccoon on your face?

Stanzie decided to take on a Raccoon again....

We just planted the garden and we think the Raccoon hopped the fence to check it out.

We have been keeping Stanzie in at night, due to a Raccoon encounter about 6 months ago.
But, the last time we denied her request to go out at night, she had an accident in the house.

So, last Saturday at midnight, when she asked to go out, we opened the door.....
Within minutes, she had a Raccoon attached to her face.

We came to her aid with flashlights and a shovel. Not sure we were all that much help to her.
We will spare you the details.

Stanzie will be fine, she has had her face shaved and wounds treated and is on antibiotics for a week. Her shots were all up to date. She has not missed a meal and her tail still wags. We are very sorry that is not the case for the raccoon :(

So, 10 year old 'Constanza Marie' is back under night time house arrest. The rest of the family would like a little less midnight drama.

Wyatt, Mom and Dad

  1. Those raccoons are mischief makers :( Glad that Stanzie is still tail-wagging!

  2. Poor Stanzie ! We didn't know raccoons were so dangerous, they look so cute !
Here in Australia we have possums, they annoy us but are too scared to attack !

  3. Oh Stanzie, you should have learned the first time to leave the raccoon alone. Maybe if you really have to go out at night mom or dad could put you on leash so you don't end up with a raccoon stuck to your face.

  4. Oh my! Poor Stanzie! That sure must have put some excitement into your night! I'm so glad Constanza Marie is fine and on nightime house arrest!

  5. Oh Stanzie, poor you! I hope that Wyatt is taking care of you. I would have chased the raccoon (mind you, I'm a wee bit smaller than you so the racoon probably would have won!!). I hope you feel much better very soon!

  6. Oh no! Poor Stanzie!! We feel so bad for her...those pesky racoons. It IS scary going out at night. Sure hope that Stanzie is feeling better real soon. xoxo Chloe and LadyBug

  7. wow that is proper scary, glad i live in the UK where dogs are safe from most things apart from other dogs that misbehave. i dont think id ever dare leave the house if we had raccoons here. hope stanzies fur grows back fast xxx

  8. What a nasty raccoon to do that to you, Stanzie! We hope you taught him a lesson and he stays away - far away!

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

  9. Poor Stanzie! Glad everything is ok!

    Snuggle Bug

  10. Oh Poor Stanzie , I know the feeling I had a squiggle masquerading has a facial piercing a few months ago. It hurt and resulted in a humiliating visit to my vet DC. I shudder to think what a raccoon would be like. Formidable foe indeed.
    Get well soon.
    Best wishes Molly

  11. Poor Stanzie , I too had an encounter in my younger days, a Christmas kiss from a squiggle that resulted in emergency vetnary treatment at great expense. Vermin chasing is a dangerous business. Love to Stanzie you OAP friend Pippinpumpkin!

  12. Oh dear! Glad we don't have those down under!

  13. Go Stanzie..Go Stanzie...oh sorry, I guess I wasn't suppose to say dat. At least hers is gonna be all fine and dandy. I am gonna blame da coon all da drama thoug if you don't mind.

  14. Bad bad raccoon but it looks like stanzie did her job or guard doggie extraordinaire.

  15. Oh no!!! Feel better Stanzie, please! Thinking about you!

  16. Ohhhh Poor Stanzie! A Midnight Fight with a nasty Raccoon, thats horrible! I cant believe that she went outside and ended up with the Raccoon attached to her face!!!
Wyatt what did you do to help? Did you attack the Raccoon too?? I'm glad that Stanzie will be fine, I will send her prayers and healing JUJU just in case! Oh its horrible not knowing that stanzie may need "the toilet" or may need to fight a crazy Raccoon, you really dont know what to do for the best! She is better off back under night time house arrest for the time being for sure! Please keep us updated! Love, Licks and Hugs with Tummy Rubs from your Friend FranK xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  17. Well, we sure are very happy she is OK, but her poor face looks sore. Bad raccoon. He got what he deserved.

Hugs and Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  18. Oh No! Is that what a raccoon can do? I have them in my yard and bushes too. But so far they have not tried to eat my face. Oh MOM is going to keep me in for sure now at night. Get better friend.

  19. My Mom's Schnauzers used to tree them all the time. Thankfully, we haven't had an issue with them here.

  20. I am so sorry that the coon got YOU while You were gettin HIM Stanzie. Well, it is dangerous work butt Somebuddy has to do it.

  21. Hello, My name is Indigo, I am a Great Dane, and i have been reading your blog for a while! I love everything sustainable and green, which is why I love your blog and it's gardening side! My humans have been making attempts at having a herb garden lately, and it is good fun to watch!
I hope it's the last time you have a racoon problem, and that your human will lift the curfew soon enough!
    Lots of slobber,

  22. Oh Stanzie please leave those racoons alone

Stop on by for a visit

  23. Oh No!! I am soooo very happy you are okay! I know us Airegirls have to keep watch on the yardie, what my ma does when there are suspicious critters out there is, she puts me on my leash and walks me out (not fun at 3am, but ya know, you do what you have to!).

    Please heal fast, fast, fast!

    Wet nose pokes,

  24. Poor Stanzie! That must be very scary for you to have that raccoon on your face! Glad that you are ok and that you tail is wagging again.

  25. Oh dear, poor Stanzie, your face looks painful. We don't have raccoons here so didn't know they could be aggressive. One of our angel brother's from long ago caught a possum and had similar results! Take care sweetie. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  26. Oh poor Stanzie! I am glad she is OK. Believe it or not, there's a huge raccoon population in Chicago and they are super MEAN. My assistant was so paranoid about me going out at night (in our old place) for fear of one of these nasties going after me. Give Stanzie a smooch for me.

    Your pal, Pip

  27. Holy crap! That is nuts. Poor baby
    Benny & Lily

  28. OMD!!!!! I had no idea that your raccoons attack your face!! We don't have them in Australia all in the wild...... I would stay inside at night Stanzie..... a girl has to look after her face!

    Tail Wuggles, Rubie

  29. Stanzie!
    Those raccoons!
    Glad you are ok!
    Kisses and hugs

  30. Next time Stanzie you say the word and you will have a White Dog Army to aid in the fight! We are glad you are not seriously hurt but are sending White Dog healing energy for a quick and full recovery. What a brave protector of the realm you are!

  31. OH, NO! I sure am glad your Mom & Dad were right there. That would have put me over the top...

  32. Oh you lovely girl, you just can't resist can you? I'm so glad you're ok!

    Nubbin wiggles,

  33. Ooo Stanzie. It looks like that raccoon got a piece of ya :( Maybe Mom and Dad will get you a stuffy raccoon to wrestle with instead :) Glad you came out with just a bit of missing hair and are otherwise okey dokey!

    Waggin at ya,
