Several times a year, we venture to new places, see the sights and picnic with the O.A.T.S. club.

This is Strawberry Island, in the Columbia River Gorge.

This weekend, we will be adventuring to Lucia and Molten Falls.

It's Earth Day!

We celebrate at our house, by first declaring an Earth Day Princess!

Stanzie is the only one willing to wear the 'Earth Day' Skirt...Congratulations Princess!!

We hiked around and saw some lovely native plants.

We met a new friend on our walk.

16 month old Welsh Terrier, Oscar!

He's a little firecracker. His dad said he was pulled out of doggy day care, for bullying a Husky!

The spring crops have started producing.

It's officially 'salad and cobbler' season!

Snacking between meals...

 I Like to Eat...All the Time!

I like to be told I'm a 'Good Boy' and get a treat...All the Time!

I'm cute and people want to feed me...All the Time!

But, I want to be a FitDoggy...so I eat healthy snacks between my regular meals.

I love fruits and veggies, especially fresh from our garden.

My favorites are Strawberries, Apple Slices, Squash, Peas and Carrots.

....And here's a helpful tip from our veterinarian. 

When your cute dog gives you the 'I'm so cute and I'm starving' look, just give him a few pieces of his regular kibble.

 Yesterday, we did some landscaping for KC.

KC did his supervising from the patio planters.

"Hey you, Landscaper Doggie!"

"What is that you are doing to my yard?"

"I don't recall authorizing this work. Will there be catnip plants?"

"Gosh, supervising is dizzying work!"

The Broken Table

 Last weekend's heavy winds, broke the glass top of our neighbor's table.

The cost of a glass replacement was more than the cost of a new table...so, they got a new table.

What do you do with a perfectly good table with no top?

We decided to make them a living table!

A what??

We placed a plastic nursery pot in the middle and chicken wire to the tables edge.

Then we put some Styrofoam  peanuts in the bottom of the pot for drainage and added some potting soil to the top.

Hey, is that a hops vine, you have in there?

(Nibble Nibble)

We covered the chicken wire with some moss that we scrapped off some rocks.

Then filled the center with some starts of plants from around the yard.

The only expense was potting soil!

The moss will turn brown soon, but we are hoping that the trailing plants will fill in and hang over the edges.

We will give this back to the neighbors...if we can lift it...BOL!

(Also thinking we need to paint the legs black...next dry day)

Silver Dollar Plant

(Lunaria annua)

The flowers of Lunaria bloom in the late spring and early summer, followed by the round or oval one inch pods in the early fall. Plants can grow up to 3 feet tall and have large coarsely toothed leaves.

To dry the seed pods for winter bouquets, gather them as soon as they start to turn brown. They tend to rot during wet weather if allowed to ripen on the plants. Rub off the outer parts of the pods to expose the central disks. Hang upside down in dry, dark, well ventilated place to cure.
HOW TO GROW
Sow seed 1/4 inch deep. Will take from 10 to 14 days to germinate. Sow indoors for early start or outside in midsummer to bloom the following spring.
Select an area in full sun or light shade. Plants will grow in almost any soil that is well-drained. Space plants to stand 12 to 15 inches apart. Plants usually multiply in the garden by sowing its own seed, often coming up year after year without further care.
A biennial sometimes grown as an annual. If treated as an annual and sown in the early spring, the plants will flower later in the spring but will never become as large or as colorful as those grown as biennials.

It seeds freely and can be slightly invasive in this climate...so caution gardeners.
But, such a pretty weed!!
