Chef in my Garden

Mom and Dad's idea of the perfect evening....
Good friends, good food, a great garden and maybe a dog or two!
That was the benefit dinner for Growing Gardens.
A local non profit, that promotes urban, home scale food gardening where the need is the greatest.
Dinner was served in the garden of Portland's most familiar
gardener and host of the local radio program, "In the Garden with Mike Darcy"
The fabulous plants...
Garden sculpture..
One very lucky dog!
Thanks to our lovely hosts and to Growing Gardens.
Wyatt would love to come next year!  :)   BOL!

  2. Dang those look like some TASTY dinners!

I was volunteer managing a food bank/emergency services organization last year and my favorite program was one where we had school kids start container gardens of vegetables and herbs and then we gave well-started containers to families in need. At the end of the growing season, the containers are returned we would provide them with the a container garden the following season.

It was so rewarding. The kids learned a little about self-sufficiency and growing-your-own and they were soooooo proud to be helping. The families has some fresh produce. Win win all around.

I think next year, a pot luck provided by some of the gardens will be an awesome addition.

  16. Your photos are wonderful. I am on the Board of Directors at Growing Gardens and wanted to thank you for your support of our organization.

Without the generosity of people like you to support our events we couldn't have helped hundreds of low income Portland families and individuals learn how to grow a portion of their own food.

Thanks again so much for your help with Growing Gardens.
