So, we had our first REALLY sunny weekend..86 degrees, Bow Wow!!
We have a "to do list" that should keep us going to Thanksgiving!!
We planted 109 tomatoes and 10 basil plants. We decided that the 325 tomato plants we did last year was too much...do ya think?
We are putting this black cloth between the rows this year for weed suppression and to generate some heat. Just in case we have a cold summer like last year.
Then, we have the upper garden that is close to the front door. The upper garden has things like radishes and lettuce, swiss chard, garlic and peas. It is for everyday picking, for dinners.
The big garden below is for canning and freezing. We like to make batches of Salsa, Marinara Sauce and Pesto for the winter.
Dad planted these Maiden Hair Ferns today in this new pot.
They grow wild behind my dog kennel :)
Look Dad! Your hops are growing. You need to learn to make beer!
No sunny Saturday is complete without the BBQ.
Tonight, it's chicken and mango sausage on rosemary skewers!
Followed by an after dinner swim.
Happy Digging,
Wyatt
Dearest Wyatt-
ReplyDeleteI would say that maybe you are a workaholic, however, it looks like you get to do your fair share of playing :) All the hard work pays off, eating and swimming are a great reward!! I bet you loved that mango sausage, that looks amazing! Enjoy the remainder of the weekend, make sure you get some rest because it's back to work on Monday.
Sincerely Yours,
Bubbles
Mom's nose is SOOOOOOO smelling basil now!!!

Now that is the way to spend a saturday! Hmmm makes my mom's garden seem pretty punny with there 5 tomato's, onions, eggplants, parley, basil and assortment of peppers (which she is allergic too). Our basil is going crazy at the moment so mom is also planning on doing jars of pesto.
ReplyDeleteI DO remember all the tomatoes you planted last year. We have a LOT butt not 107 of them. You will have the mostest wonderful foods to eat in the winter. That is the BEST!!!
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice to just go out the back door and pick fresh greens for a salad - Mom loves salads, with anything and everything in them. That's a lot of tomato plants even if it is a lot less than last year. Hope all of your plants grow well for you.
ReplyDeleteWoos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Bet you don't go to the grocery store very often with a fantastic garden like that! Yum! Home grown food! The hops your Dad planted made Mom smile BIG :D Takes brewing your own suds to a new level!
ReplyDeleteWishin I was enjoying your pond and waterfall with ya Wyatt :)
Waggin at ya,

Yowzie! And I only have 6 tomato plants in! But, I'm with you--hoping this summer is a bit better.

ReplyDeleteWyatt, you live the life! Mom is just happy she managed to get three tomato plants and three pepper plants in our garden. Our Spring was so wet and cold that nothing got done. Feel free to send some tomatoes our way!
ReplyDeleteBunny
What a magnificent garden you have Wyatt!! We are so jelly!! We especially like your swimming pool. Hope your BBQ was delish =)
ReplyDelete-Gizmo, Bart and Ruby
Holy Tomatoes!!! You look like a fish in that water!!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow. I think we put in 8 tomato plants last year, along with a couple of zucchini, green bean, and cucumber plants, and I thought that was a lot, but that's nothing in comparison to the work you and your mom and dad have been doing! 109 tomato plants - impressive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a life you have, Wyatt! Did you get to sample one of those yummy chicken, mango and sausage thingies! 109 tomato plants!!! We planted 2!
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
So glad you enjoyed weather - Saturday was gorgeous! Yay!
ReplyDeleteOne hundred and nine tomatoes?! YUM!
-Chandra at Daley's Dog Years
It must have been hot everywhere this past weekend. Everyone is talking about it. It was hot here too, but I like hot so much better than cold. Looks like a tasty barbecue. Now I'm craving a cookout. I know where I can get some tomatoes. ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay - our bags are packed (included Mom & Dad's) and we're heading across the country in the hopes of snacking on some of the tasty things that come out of your garden! Basil, mmmm, rosemary, mmmmm, salsa, marinara, pesto! mmmmmmmmmmm!!! Although not sure if Mango would really want us snacking on his sausages! BOL Hey, do you guys sell & ship any of this? Let us know! *drool* *slobber* um, think we're gonna need a new keyboard!
ReplyDeleteThe Road Dogs
I just love your blog and this dog. I just put in an adoption application for an airedale out of AZ. I hope I get approved. I can't wait to have my own. :)
