"How To..." with Wyatt

Perhaps you have seen these fountains, made with ceramic pots.
Then, you say to yourself,  "I would like to have one of those!"
It's so easy, even an Airedale can do it!!
I'm going to show you how!
First you need a basin or reservoir to hold the water and catch the overflow.
They come in all sizes. Plastic ones are $100 and up. They also come in galvanized for really heavy drilled rocks.

Then, you need a ceramic planter or some type of artsy vessel.
We are using this 36" tall x 16" wide planter.
Mom applied one coat of Henry's #107 Asphalt Emulsion (from Home Depot, about $10), to the inside of the planter.
Mostly to make the inside black. It looks better when full of water and helps to disguise the works inside.
Dad is drilling a hole in the bottom, that can accept 1/2" PVC fittings.
We are using a 450 gallons per hour pump ($80.)
Look Stanzie! One for me and one for you!!
(Ha ha, actually these are going on a condo balcony in the city.)
Stanzie says..."I told you so, Wyatt."
Sassy sister...blah blah blah
Anyway, there you have it....the pump goes in the black box, flexible 1/2" tubing and fittings up through the bottom of the pot and some 1/2" PVC painted black up to the top.
Just add water and plug it in!
Happy Bubbling!
Wyatt

Later this week, we will take you up on the condo balconies, where we are also planting trees in giant ceramic planters and installing trellises too!

  2. You are so clever Wyatt - we didn't know about fountains. In the summer here - households are told to switch off their fountains because of water restrictions! No fun! So now many households that had fountains now just have statues!

  13. Oh, this is one of Mom's dreams! Actually, we have an old pump in the front of our house, the real deal with a cistern underneath it, and Mom's dream is to have a fountain in that thing with a bucket to catch the water. I don't suppose you want to come over and fix it up for us, do you?

  26. Wyatt, your creativity astounds us every day! Those fountains are beautiful! We see them on HGTV and DIY Network sometimes!

I've just caught up on reading your blog posts from during our break...don't have time to comment on them all though unfortunately! It looks like you all had a great 4th of July and those roadside attractions were pretty dang cool! There's really not any interesting roadside attractions around here...bummer!
